Workforce Solutions Alamo Releases April 2024 Job Market Information
(May 17, 2024) San Antonio, Texas – Workforce Solutions Alamo (WSA) reports that the April 2024 unemployment rate for the eight-county San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan statistical area (MSA) is 3.3 percent, lower than the 3.8 rate in March 2024. Since April of 2023, the MSA unemployment rate remained the same over the year from the same rate of 3.3 percent. The April 2024 unemployment rate for the San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan statistical area (MSA) is lower than the state’s not seasonally adjusted (actual) rate of 3.5 percent for April 2024. The civilian Labor force for the MSA increased by 1,163 individuals over the month and increased by 29,121 individuals over the year.

Labor Force Summary
The Texas not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped six-tenths (0.6) of a point over the month to 3.5 percent in April 2024. The unemployment rate was unchanged over the year at 3.5 percent, the same rate of April 2023.
The U.S. not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined four-tenths of a point (0.4) over the month as it registered 3.5 percent in April 2024. The rate increased annually by four-tenths of a point (0.4) from the April 2023 rate of 3.1 percent.

Labor Force Summary
The Texas seasonally adjusted rate ticked up to 4.0 percent in April after spending the prior 10 months at 3.9 percent. The rate was unchanged over the year remaining at the same 4.0 percent rate of April 2023.
The U.S. unemployment rate rose by one tenth (0.1) of a point over the month to the April 2024 rate of 3.9 percent from a 3.8 percent rate in March 2024 and increased by half a point (0.5) annually to the 3.9 percent rate from a 3.4 rate in April 2023.
Jobs in the San Antonio-New Braunfels Metropolitan Statistical Area
Since April of 2023, 27,900 jobs were added to the MSA, resulting in an annual growth rate of 2.4 percent.
Six of eleven major industries showed monthly gains: The industries adding jobs over the month were Leisure and Hospitality, Professional and Business Services, Government, Private Education and Health Services, Other Services, and Manufacturing. The Mining and Logging and Construction remained steady. Most industries achieved a positive annual growth rate.
Monthly job loss occurred in three industries: Financial Activities, Information and Trade Transportation, and Utilities showed job loss over the month. Most industries achieved a positive annual growth rate.
