Workforce Solutions Alamo Releases April 2026 Labor Market Information

(May 22, 2026) San Antonio, Texas – Workforce Solutions Alamo (WSA) reports the April 2026 unemployment rate for the eight-county San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan statistical area (MSA) is 3.8 percent. The April unemployment rate decreased over the month from the March 2026 rate of 4.0 percent and is three-tenths of a point (0.3) higher than the 3.5 rate from a year ago in April 2025. The April 2026 unemployment rate for the San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan statistical area (MSA) is lower than the state’s not seasonally adjusted (actual) April 2026 rate of 4.0 percent. The Civilian Labor Force for the MSA increased by 2,094 individuals over the month and decreased by 6,835 individuals over the year.

Texas & The Nation (Actual Rates) Comparison

The Texas not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined by a tenth of a point to 4.0 percent in April, lower than the March rate of 4.1 percent. However, the April 2026 rate was higher than the 3.7 rate recorded in April 2025

The U.S. not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased by three-tenths of a percentage point over the month to 4.0 percent in April, equal to the Texas rate and one-tenth of a point higher than the April 2025 level of 3.9 percent.

Texas & The Nation (Seasonally Adjusted Rates) Comparison

The Texas seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.3 percent in April 2026, matching the six available monthly readings in the series.  This rate was two-tenths of a percentage point (0.2) higher than the 4.1 percent in April 2025.

The U.S. unemployment rate also held at 4.3 percent in April. Over the last 12 monthly readings, the U.S. rate averaged 4.3 percent.  The rate was one- tenth of a point (0.1) higher than the April 2025 rate of 4.2 percent.

Labor Force Summary

In the San Antonio New Braunfels MSA, 500 jobs were gained over the year at a 0.0% growth rate.

Six major industries showed monthly gains in April of 2026. The jobs in industries adding jobs over the month are Professional and Business Services, Trade Transportation and Utilities, Leisure and Hospitality, Government, Other Services, the Information industry and while the Mining and Logging Industry, Manufacturing, and the Construction Industry remained steady.

In April 2026, job losses occurred over the month in two major industries, Private Education and Health Services, and the Financial Activities industry, Of these industries one of two achieved positive annual jobs gains over the year.
