Workforce Solutions Alamo Releases March 2026 Labor Market Information

(May 1, 2026) San Antonio, Texas – Workforce Solutions Alamo (WSA) reports the March 2026 unemployment rate for the eight-county San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan statistical area (MSA) is 4.0 percent. The March unemployment rate decreased over the month from the February 2026 rate of 4.3 percent and is two-tenths of a point (0.2) higher than the 3.8 rate from a year ago in March 2025. The March 2026 unemployment rate for the San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan statistical area (MSA) is lower than the state’s not seasonally adjusted (actual) March 2026 rate of 4.1 percent. The Civilian Labor Force for the MSA decreased by 4,332 individuals over the month and decreased by 461 individuals over the year.

Texas & The Nation (Actual Rates) Comparison

The Texas not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined by three-tenths of a percentage point to 4.1 percent in March, lower than the February rate of 4.4 percent. However, the March 2026 rate was higher than the 4.0 rate recorded in March 2025.

The U.S. not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased by four-tenths of a percentage point over the month to 4.3 percent in March, two-tenths of a point above the Texas rate of 4.1 percent and one-tenth higher than the March 2025 Texas rate of 4.2 percent.

Texas & The Nation (Seasonally Adjusted Rates) Comparison

The Texas seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.3 percent in March 2026, matching the last five available monthly readings in the series.  This rate was two-tenths of a percentage point (0.2) higher than the 4.1 percent in March 2025.

The U.S. seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased to 4.3 percent in March 2026, lower than the 4.4 percent in February 2026 and was one tenth of a point (0.1) higher than the March 2025 rate of 4.2 percent.

Labor Force Summary

In the San Antonio New Braunfels MSA, 4,100 jobs were gained over the year at a 0.3% growth rate.  Five major industries showed monthly gains in March of 2026. The industries adding jobs over the month are Leisure and Hospitality, Private Education and Health Services, Professional and Business Services, the Financial Activities industry, and Trade Transportation and Utilities, while the Mining and Logging Industry, Manufacturing, and the Information industry remained steady.  Of these industries four achieved positive annual jobs gains over the year.

In March 2026, job losses occurred over the month in three major industries, Construction,

Other Services and Government, one industry, achieved positive annual job gains over the year.
