Summer Earn & Learn (SEAL) is a statewide initiative to offer paid summer employment opportunities to students with disabilities. Across the state of Texas in 2018, 2,501 students participated in paid work experience with over 600 Texas employers. Locally, Workforce Solutions Alamo provided 214 students with paid summer employment opportunities with over 26 employers and plan to expand the program in 2019.

As the demand for a high-skilled labor force grows, consider students with disabilities to meet those labor demands. Summer Earn and Learn offers you a risk-free pipeline to meet your recruitment needs and allows you an opportunity to mentor a pipeline of future talent.

We offer at no additional cost:
-Employees for short-term summer projects (approximately 5-8 weeks)
-Wages and Workers Compensation paid directly to participants
-Reasonable accommodations provided
-Additional on-the-job training if needed
-Site visits to monitor participants and ensure your satisfaction.

The SEAL program increases work-based learning opportunities for students with disabilities, thereby providing participants with foundational employment skills and better preparing them for successful transition to postsecondary education and employment.  Students will develop skills and competencies, build self-confidence, network with other employees of the organization; and receive feedback on his or her performance.

-Pre-employment Work Readiness Training and preparation;
-Work Experience to help participants gain familiarity with the workplace environment and develop transferable job skills; and
-Paid compensation for time worked on the job.

To register for Summer Earn and Learn participants must:
-Be 14-22 years of age and a current student (high school or college with a disability)
-Attend Work Readiness Training
-Commit to a minimum of 5 weeks of work
-Must live in Workforce Solutions Alamo service area. Map to WSA Service Area

Vocational Rehabilitation staff will determine eligibility for participation in SEAL and/or for other VR-funded services. Click here to find the nearest VR office to you.
