Connecting jobs with jobseekers in this uncertain economic climate is daunting, as is stretching ever-reducing public funding, but Workforce Solutions Alamo proved up to the task this year, winning the 2008 Texas Workforce Commission’s “Best Overall Large Board Performance Award” from among the seven large boards across the state. Workforce Solutions Alamo was named the number one large workforce board in the state during the opening day of TWC’s 12th Annual Statewide Conference being held in San Antonio for the first time (Dec. 3-5). “We are delighted to receive such recognition from the State,” said Executive Director of Workforce Solutions Alamo Chakib Chehadi. “Texas, as a whole, has remained extremely competitive and well-positioned for future job growth, so it is a great honor to be recognized by our funding source for a job well done. And, while we expect difficult times in the coming months, we have high hopes for the future of the Alamo region.” This is the third time in six years Workforce Solutions Alamo has received the top designation. TWC reviewed performance standards, financial benchmarks and monitoring reviews to determine this year’s top performers. “I would like to commend Workforce Solutions Alamo for their outstanding service to workforce system customers over the past year,” said Texas Workforce Commission Chairman Tom Pauken. "Our local workforce boards across the state do an excellent job providing assistance to Texas employers and workers. For the Alamo area board to win the top large board performance honor is indeed an accomplishment.” The annual workforce conference, took place at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, and hosted professionals from workforce boards and agencies, economic development as well as education institutions across Texas. The conference, titled “Together we make Texas work,” focused on encouraging economic development and providing strategies for staying competitive and excelling in today’s trying economic environment. Speakers from a variety of disciplines shared their perspectives on various aspects of economic and workforce development with professionals from around the country. Tackling issues of drop out rates and literacy to re-educating offenders and providing affordable, reliable childcare, speakers and panelists addressed a range of challenges and opportunities affecting workforce development.
